Amazon develops solar energy: what you need to know

Amazon’s largest warehouse in Europe, in Essex, will have thousands of solar panels on its roof.

More than 11,000 solar panels – enough to power 700 homes for a year.

Brittany Stanton, senior manager of Amazon’s energy program, said they are putting their “culture of scale and innovation” into working towards sustainability and saving the planet for future generations.

“We’re proud that Amazon is committed to powering our global infrastructure with 100% renewable energy,” Stanton said.

Installing solar panels is just one way we’re making our fulfillment center network greener and more independent of conventional energy.

Going forward, Amazon plans to use clean energy not only for its own needs, but also to connect to local municipal energy grids.
