The Tuscan government has come up with a unique offer: move to the region and they will pay you between 10,000 and 30,000 euros to buy a house.
The “Dream” program only applies to homes in mountain villages with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants. Tuscany, a region of central Italy famous for its breathtaking scenery, art, and history, is home to 119 such villages, centered around the UNESCO-recognized Renaissance gem of Florence.
While some areas of Tuscany have become so attractive that they are now too expensive for locals, other small communities have suffered from mass displacement, leaving empty homes and businesses closed. Take Pitigliano, a small ancient town known as Little Jerusalem, whose walls and slate roofs create a magnificent panorama atop a cliff of shining tufa, 80 km southeast of the city of Grosseto. Here is a partially ruined 500m2 farmhouse with 10 rooms that could be yours. Included is 10 hectares of land, including a lake and olive groves. The whole thing is for sale for €180,000 (plus fees). Now, under a new scheme called Mountain Residence Permit 2024, those interested will be able to receive between €10,000 and €30,000 in compensation for their investment.
